On my Birthday



1. In 1929, the first Academy Awards are announced.




The Academy Awards otherwise known as Oscars are issued annually by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, to distinguish the top professionals in the film industry. The award doesn't only recognize actors and actresses, it also involves directors and writers.


2. In 1930, Elm Farm Ollie becomes the first cow to fly in a fixed-wing aircraft and also the first cow to be milked in an aircraft.


Elm Farm Ollie flew 72 miles from Bismarck, Missouri to St. Louis. The main purpose of the trip was to let scientists observe midair effects on animals and for propaganda purposes.

3. In 1930, while studying photos taken in January, Clyde Tombaugh discovers Pluto.

Pluto is the second largest known dwarf planet in the solar system, and the tenth-largest planet counting away from the sun. Pluto is 2/3 the size of the moon but 1,200 farther away.






4. In 1969, the Hawthorne Nevada Airlines Flight 708 disaster occurs, killing all on board.
Hawthorne Nevada Airlines Flight 708 was a McDonnell Douglas DC-3, the accident happened due to navigational errors.

5. In 1979, snow fell in the Sahara desert for the only recorded time in history.

The Sahara desert is located in southern Algeria, a country in southern Africa.

Arrest in Taiwan Corruption Probe






On October 31, police in Taiwan arrested Chiou I-Jen for alleged corruption. He is suspected of converting about $5oo,ooo from diplomatic funds in year 2004. Chiou I-Jen stepped down in May, he was detained Friday facing formal charges but hasn't confessed the allegation.


Chiou I-Jen should be arrested he's also an accomplice with former president of Taiwan, helping him with his foreign affairs of money laundrying. One just can't believe that when one's been accused of something with solid evidence, they can still persuade other people to believe that they're innocent.
