Mardi Gras

Many Christians celebrates Mardi Gras in most of the European continent, except in some countries such as Ireland and the United Kingdom. Mardi Gras mainly celebrates the fasting of Lent which is the day before Lent or Ash Wednesday. They often throw a party, parade or carnival as the main event of the day. Mardi Gras literally translates into English as “Fat Tuesday”. In other countries Mardi Gras is also known as Shrove Tuesday, Pancake Day and Dollar Day. The largest celebration of Mardi Gras known is in New Orleans, where they throw gigantic parties and street parades. The official colours of the Mardi Gras celebration is purple for justice, green for faith and gold for power.

I found the celebration of Mardi Gras interesting but also has a hint of mysteriousness to it. It’s surprising how it seems like a pretty dull tradition but gradually evolved into a colourful and exhilarating celebration. It’s sort of disappointing to know that it is not that big of a celebration in Canada.
